Houd je van brocante, antiek en Franse chateaus? Dan is deze film echt iets voor jou. De bewoners van dit 17e-eeuwse Franse kasteel lijken spoorloos verdwenen – met achterlating van al hun bezittingen. De Vlaamse Youtubers Jordy & Lesley, Bro’s of Decay genaamd, glipten naar binnen en legden het fraaie, maar vervallen interieur vast.

Jordy & Lesley nemen je mee door de vertrekken van het immense gebouw dat al ruim dertig jaar leegstaat. En waar alle meubels nog op hun plek staan en kleding nog gewoon in kasten hangt. Fransen hebben er patent op om huizen allengs te verlaten en vrijwel alle bezittingen te laten staan.
Dat de tijd meedogenloos is, toont deze film. Behang dat door de zwaartekracht naar beneden komt rollen, verflagen die omkrullen en op de grond vallen, de eenzaamheid waarin alle meubels en gebruiksvoorwerpen hun tijd uitzingen – een vrolijke aanblik is het niet. Maar toch: kijk er doorheen en zie de contouren van wat ooit een haast glamorous kasteel moet zijn geweest. Met als mooiste vertrek: de slaapkamer in paarstinten. Een droom.

Do you love brocante, antiques and French chateaus? Then this film is something for you. The residents of this 17th-century French castle seem to have disappeared without a trace – leaving behind all their possessions. Belgian Youtubers Jordy & Lesley, called Bro’s of Decay, slipped inside and captured the beautiful but decrepit interior.
Jordy & Lesley take you through the rooms of the immense building that has been empty for over thirty years. And where all the furniture is still in place and clothes are hanging in cupboards. The French have a patent for gradually abandoning houses and leaving almost all their possessions behind.
The film shows that time is ruthless. Wallpaper that rolls down due to gravity, layers of paint that curl and fall to the ground, the loneliness in which all furniture and utensils are biding their time – it is not a cheerful sight. But still: look through it and see the contours of what must once have been an almost glamorous chateau. With the most beautiful room: the bedroom in shades of purple. A dream.
