Dit bijzondere herenhuis in hartje Parijs is klaar om opnieuw ontdekt te worden.

Van huis naar museum
Net als andere beroemde musea, zoals Musée Nissim-de-Camondo, was Musée Jacquemart-André oorspronkelijk een privéwoning. Édouard André en zijn vrouw Nélie Jacquemart bouwden hier hun indrukwekkende kunstcollectie op, met een focus op Italiaanse schilderkunst. Na hun overlijden werd het huis een museum, om de kunst en het leven van toen voor de toekomst vast te leggen.
Intensief restauratiewerk
Na meer dan een jaar van intensieve restauratiewerkzaamheden opent het Musée Jacquemart-André weer zijn deuren voor bezoekers. Zodra je binnenstapt, voelt het alsof je teruggaat in de tijd. De eetkamer, met het prachtige plafond van Giambattista Tiepolo en de kleurrijke Brusselse wandtapijten, lijkt klaar om de oorspronkelijke bewoners opnieuw te ontvangen. Ook de rookkamer is in ere hersteld. De lambrisering en gordijnen zijn gerestaureerd volgens oude ontwerpen, waardoor de kamer weer lijkt op hoe zij ooit was. De muren en gordijnen, voorheen saliegroen, zijn nu bordeauxrood, gebaseerd op een oud gordijn dat in de opslag werd gevonden en oude foto’s die de oorspronkelijke kleur onthulden.
Ontdek de binnenplaats
Een van de fraaiste onderdelen van het museum is misschien wel de Tiepolo-trap, met zijn schitterende marmer en bladgoud. De trap is zorgvuldig schoongemaakt en hersteld, zodat hij weer in volle glorie te zien is. En dan is er de binnenplaats, die is terugebracht naar de stijl van het begin van de 20e eeuw.
Leuk weetje
Het restaurant en de tearoom van het museum hebben een nieuwe naam: ‘Le Nélie’, genoemd naar Nélie Jacquemart, de kunstverzamelaarster die samen met haar man Édouard André het museum mogelijk maakte. Leuk weetje: elke zaterdag en zondag kun je hier brunchen.
Hooggeëerde expositie
Musée Jacquemart-André trapt af met een tentoonstelling van ongeveer veertig meesterwerken uit de befaamde Galleria Borghese in Rome. Bezoekers krijgen de kans om een selectie van belangrijke werken uit de renaissance- en barokperiode te bewonderen. Denk aan werken van Caravaggio, Rubens, Botticelli, Raphael, Titiaan, Veronese, Antonello da Messina en Bernini.

Time Travel in Paris: Musée Jacquemart-André Reopens Its Doors
For those curious about the life of the Parisian bourgeoisie, there’s good news. While the Musée Nissim de Camondo is temporarily closed for renovation, the Musée Jacquemart-André will reopen its doors on September 6, 2024, after a thorough refurbishment. This unique mansion in the heart of Paris is ready to be rediscovered.
From Home to Museum
Like other famous museums, such as the Musée Nissim de Camondo, the Musée Jacquemart-André was originally a private residence. Édouard André and his wife, Nélie Jacquemart, built their impressive art collection here, focusing on Italian paintings. After their deaths, the house was converted into a museum to preserve the art and the lifestyle of the past for future generations.
Intensive Restoration Work
After more than a year of intensive restoration, the Musée Jacquemart-André is once again open to visitors. As soon as you step inside, it feels like you’re traveling back in time. The dining room, with its stunning ceiling by Giambattista Tiepolo and vibrant Brussels tapestries, seems ready to welcome the original inhabitants once more. The smoking room has also been carefully restored. The paneling and curtains have been refurbished according to old designs, bringing the room back to its original state. The walls and curtains, previously sage green, are now burgundy red, based on an old curtain found in storage and archival photos that revealed the original color.
Discover the Courtyard
One of the museum’s finest features is perhaps the Tiepolo staircase, with its beautiful marble and gilding. The staircase has been carefully cleaned and restored, allowing it to shine once again in all its glory. The courtyard has also been returned to its early 20th-century style.
Fun Fact
The museum’s restaurant and tearoom have a new name: “Le Nélie,” named after Nélie Jacquemart, the art collector who, along with her husband Édouard André, made the museum possible. Fun fact: you can enjoy brunch here every Saturday and Sunday.
Prestigious Exhibition
The Musée Jacquemart-André is kicking off with an exhibition featuring around forty masterpieces from the renowned Galleria Borghese in Rome. Visitors will have the chance to admire a selection of important works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, including pieces by Caravaggio, Rubens, Botticelli, Raphael, Titian, Veronese, Antonello da Messina, and Bernini.
