100 jaar surrealisme
2024 markeert het eeuwfeest van André Bretons Surrealistisch Manifest, dat de geboorte van de surrealistische beweging inluidde. Deze tentoonstelling eert dit jubileum met een selectie werken van zowel mannelijke als vrouwelijke surrealisten. Het originele manuscript van het manifest vormt het middelpunt van de tentoonstelling.

Kunstenaar van het jaar 2024 Marie Cecile Thijs exposeert in Parijs
Uit acht finalisten is Marie Cécile Thijs verkozen tot Nederlands Kunstenaar van het Jaar 2024, waarmee ze zich aansluit bij prestigieuze voorgangers als Corneille, Marlene Dumas en Erwin Olaf. Haar werk is binnenkort ook in Parijs te zien. De expositie toont foto’s die spelen met tijd, waarbij een bijna onwerkelijke, bovennatuurlijke relatie tussen verleden en heden wordt uitgebeeld.

Bloemenpracht van Yves Saint Laurent
Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris presenteert een tentoonstelling over de bloemenpassie van de Franse couturier. De expositie toont ongeveer dertig ontwerpen waarin Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) bloemen als inspiratiebron gebruikte, van lelies tot rozen en bougainvillea. Zijn liefde voor natuur en literatuur komt duidelijk naar voren, met name zijn bewondering voor Marcel Proust.

De vroege jaren van Jackson Pollock
Musée national Picasso-Paris presenteert een tentoonstelling gewijd aan het vroege werk van de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Jackson Pollock. De expositie volgt Pollocks artistieke ontwikkeling tot aan zijn beroemde drippings en belicht de diverse invloeden die zijn werk vormden, waaronder inheemse Amerikaanse kunst en Europese avant-garde kunstenaars zoals Pablo Picasso.

Made in France: geschiedenis van Franse textielindustrie
De Archives Nationales in Frankrijk duiken in de geschiedenis van de nationale textielindustrie. De tentoonstelling toont de staatsbemoeienis met de textielsector, van Colberts hervormingen onder Louis XIV tot de reddingsplannen in de 20e eeuw. Verder worden voor het eerst unieke textielstalen uit de archieven, van alledaagse tot luxe stoffen, getoond. Deze stalen, samen met historische documenten, illustreren het belang van de textielindustrie voor de Franse economie en samenleving.

Jacques Prévert, rêveur d’images
Ter ere van het 100-jarig bestaan van het surrealisme en het feit dat Jacques Prévert 70 jaar geleden in Montmartre kwam wonen, eert Musée de Montmartre de man die vooral bekend is als dichter, scenarioschrijver en tekstschrijver (bijvoorbeeld van het lied Barbara voor Juliette Gréco en Yves Montand). Maar Jacques Prévert creativiteit reikte veel verder. Hij was ook humanist, surrealist en wijdde hij een groot deel van zijn leven aan de beeldende kunst: van geïllustreerde scenario’s tot samenwerkingen met schilders, beeldhouwers en fotografen, en surrealistische collages. Dit werk is binnenkort te zien.

Hoedenkunstenaar Stephen Jones in de spotlight
Palais Galliera eert de Britse modist Stephen Jones met een expositie die zijn iconische hoedencreaties viert, van de jaren ’80 tot nu. Met meer dan 170 hoeden en 40 complete looks toont het museum zijn samenwerkingen met modehuizen als Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier en Vivienne Westwood. De expositie legt ook de nadruk op Jones’ innige band met Parijs, de stad die zijn creatieve visie blijvend heeft beïnvloed.

Christofle, een schitterende geschiedenis
Het Musée des Arts Décoratifs presenteert een eerste grote tentoonstelling over Christofle, het Franse bedrijf dat sinds 1830 verzilverde en massief zilveren artikelen produceert. De expositie toont meer dan 600 stukken, waaronder zilverwerk, schilderijen, tekeningen en affiches, en belicht hoe Christofle onder leiding van Charles Christofle en Henri Bouilhet het zilverwerk transformeerde en toegankelijk maakte voor het dagelijks leven.

Paris is buzzing this fall with seven extraordinary exhibitions, ranging from surrealist art to the floral splendor of Yves Saint Laurent and the early works of Jackson Pollock.
100 Years of Surrealism
2024 marks the centenary of André Breton’s Surrealist Manifesto, which officially launched the surrealist movement. This exhibition honors this jubilee with a selection of works from both male and female surrealists. The exhibition focuses on characteristic themes such as dreams and the labyrinth. The original manuscript of the manifesto forms the centerpiece of the exhibition.

Artist of the Year 2024 Marie Cecile Thijs Exhibits in Paris
Out of eight finalists, Marie Cécile Thijs was chosen as the Dutch Artist of the Year 2024, joining prestigious predecessors such as Corneille, Marlene Dumas, Erwin Olaf, Marc Mulders, and Daan Roosegaarde. Her Parisian exhibition showcases photographs that play with time, depicting an almost surreal, supernatural relationship between past and present. The exhibition also includes an 8-minute video.

Floral Splendor of Yves Saint Laurent
Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris presents an exhibition about the French couturier’s passion for flowers. The exhibition showcases about thirty iconic designs in which Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) used flowers as a source of inspiration, from lilies to roses and bougainvillea. His love for nature and literature is clearly evident, particularly his admiration for Marcel Proust. The exhibition also includes works by American artist Sam Falls, who brings the colors and shapes of flowers to life in a unique way.

The Early Years of Jackson Pollock
Musée national Picasso-Paris presents an exhibition dedicated to the early work of American artist Jackson Pollock. The exhibition follows Pollock’s artistic development up to his famous drippings and highlights the various influences that shaped his work, including indigenous American art and European avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso. It offers a look at the early years of one of the greatest icons of American painting.

Made in France: History of French Textile Industry
The French Archives Nationales present an exhibition that brings the history of the French textile industry to life. From the reforms of Jean-Baptiste Colbert under Louis XIV to the rescue plans of the 20th century, it shows how the state has supported this sector. For the first time, unique textile samples from the archives are exhibited, ranging from everyday fabrics to luxurious creations, which, together with historical documents, illustrate the importance of this industry for the French economy and society.

Hat Artist Stephen Jones in the Spotlight
Palais Galliera honors British milliner Stephen Jones with an exhibition celebrating his iconic hat creations, from the ’80s to the present. With more than 170 hats and 40 complete looks, the museum showcases his long collaborations with fashion houses such as Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Vivienne Westwood. The exhibition also emphasizes Jones’ intimate connection with Paris, the city that has continually influenced his creative vision.

Christofle, A Brilliant History
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs presents a first major exhibition on Christofle, the French company that has been producing silver-plated and solid silver articles since 1830. The exhibition displays more than 600 pieces, including silverware, paintings, drawings, and posters, and highlights how Christofle, under the leadership of Charles Christofle and Henri Bouilhet, transformed silverware and made it accessible for everyday life.
