Chez Jeannette ademt nog altijd de fifties – het interieur is sinds die tijd niet meer veranderd. ’s Ochtends spot je aan de bar locals met hun petit café en croissant, maar zodra de lunch begint, neemt een jongere generatie het over.

Logisch, want de Franse klassiekers zijn hier belachlijk betaalbaar. Een bouchée à la reine kost je 7 euro, een onglet de boeuf ook, en een berg verse friet doet 5 euro. Schenk er een glas Côtes du Rhône bij, of ga voor oranje wijn – de favoriet van de bobo’s (zeg maar de Franse havermelkelite).
Te hip? Sommige twintigers vinden van wel en steken na verloop van tijd de straat over. In Mauri7 is het minder trendy en het bier een stuk goedkoper. Maar wij? Wij blijven lekker zitten voor die fijne kaart en relaxte Franse vibe.

Chez Jeannette still breathes the fifties—the interior hasn’t changed since then. In the morning, you’ll spot locals at the bar with their petit café and croissant, but as soon as lunch begins, a younger generation takes over.
No surprise, since the French classics here are ridiculously affordable. A bouchée à la reine will set you back just €7, the same for an onglet de bœuf, and a generous portion of fresh fries costs €5. Pair it with a glass of Côtes du Rhône, or opt for orange wine—the favorite of the bobos (basically, France’s oat milk elite).
Too hip? Some twentysomethings think so and eventually cross the street to Mauri7, where it’s less trendy, and the beer is much cheaper. But us? We’re staying right here for the great menu and that relaxed French vibe.
